AUGUST 2009: NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP

20/08/2009 - New regulations for the acquiring, re-acquiring, renouncing and granting of Italian citizenship.


We inform that the Law of 15 July 2009 n.94 (Disposition on Public Security), published in the Official Gazzette n. 170 of the 24 July 2009- Ordinary Suppliment n.128, WHICH CAME INTO EFFECT ON THE 08th August 2009, has introduced some changes to the current rules regarding acquiring, re-acquiring, renouncing and granting of Italian citizenship.

The spouse of an Italian citizen, resident abroad can apply for Italian citizenship after 3 years of marriage. Changes introduced by the new law, allows for the spouse to apply for citizenship after only 1 and a half years of marriage, provided that, the couple has either an adopted or a biological child of their own.
 
Further changes introduce a payment of Euro 200, to be paid for the application, re-acquiring, renouncing and or granting of Italian citizenship. Payment can only be made by means of an international bank transfer directly into the following Postal Current Account:
